Happy Thanksgiving

11/22/2018

As we each reflect on what brings feelings of thankfulness, we hope that you know that our singers are so very thankful for this opportunity to get together to sing.  If you've ever felt a passion for something -- whether it's painting, photography, outdoors, driving, flying, reading, writing, or some other joyful endeavor -- you KNOW what it's like to not be able to express that passion.
Happy Thankful Day! From Southern Acappella Sound Chorus, Monroe Louisiana

The ladies who sing with SASC are so thankful for the high expectations of Sweet Adelines International. We are thankful for each other -- even when, sometimes, we act and feel like siblings!  We are thankful for that interaction.

In this November of thankfulness, from the beginning of our nation to the world around, we hope that each person can find something to be thankful for.  Remember that as you count those blessings, you begin to see all things that are possible.

Thank YOU for the opportunity to sing.  Singing brings joy. Joy begets joy. Seeds are planted, memories rekindled, and peace grows as notes are harmonized.  We are thankful. So thankful.

Seeking "Pitch Perfect" Singers

Ladies needed in Monroe, Louisiana to SING a cappella
Love singing? We do, too!  We love it SOOOO Much!!!  But ... if we don't have 15 singers by next May, we won't be able to sing as a registered SWEET ADELINES CHORUS any more!!!

We *NEED* more singers!  If you are female, and you like to sing, we are asking YOU to come visit a rehearsal any Monday beginning at 6 (6:30 is okay for visitors!).... we need more voices.  There are LOTS of opportunities to grow, develop, and learn with this organization.

If you are a musical professional - GREAT!  If not, that's fine, too!  This is an educational organization, so that's what happens each week at rehearsals--we LEARN.   We learn how our body functions as a musical instrument, how to get lovely sound from our instrument, and how to blend our voices as one.

Won't you consider sharing your talent with us? If you love singing, we hope you'll love singing with us.

Just show up. We'll do the rest. :-)

Teresa Howard was elected as Chorus Director of Southern Acappella Sound Chorus ("SASC"), effective July 23, 2018.  Teresa has been a member of Sweet Adelines since 2004, with SASC since January 2018, having served as co-assistant director under Karla Callaway, SASC's Interim Director since October 2017. Teresa served for eight years as an assistant director of the Ruston chorus, Piney Hills Harmony Chorus ("PHHC"), under the direction of two different chorus directors, where she also served on the Music Team, Board of Directors.  She has experience in various leadership positions in both choruses, including Section Leader and Choreography Team.

Teresa is currently enrolled in the Sweet Adelines International Director Certification Program, and has continued her barbershop harmony education through the years by attending numerous educational conferences, retreats, summer music camps, and four International Educational Symposiums around the country.  In 2007, Teresa sang on Sweet Adelines International competition stage at Calgary, Canada, with Top of the Rock Chorus (of Little Rock, Arkansas).

Teresa sang Lead in registered quartets, "Take 4 Quartet" and "Four His Glory Quartet."  She served as the "fifth ear" for “Sweet Harmony Quartet,” where Teresa says, "I enjoyed learning the craft of barbershop quartetting and the sweet fellowship of singing sisters."

Teresa is a Speech Pathologist, practicing in the Monroe area since 1985. Teresa says she loves serving her clients.  She also is in Bible Study Fellowship since 2006, and has served in a leadership capacity for the last few years.

Teresa and her husband Ron Howard three grandchildren, Molly, Lyla, and Brennon. Ron has a grown son, David (and his wife Amber), and Teresa has a grown son, Andrew. Teresa and Ron have a "feisty" rescue cat named Max.

Teresa welcomes the challenge of guiding SASC ladies on a fun and rewarding experience in the craft of singing barbershop harmony, and invites any lady who enjoys singing to visit a rehearsal and see how it feels to sing precise four-part harmony in the unique art form of barbershop harmony!

Congratulations to Cherri Barmore for being selected by her peers for the SASC 2017 WALL OF FAME Award!
Congratulations to Cherri Barmore for being selected by her peers for the SASC 2017 WALL OF FAME Award!    Cherri was honored in Houston at the annual Region 10 Great Gulf Coast Annual Conference and Competition on March 31-April 1, 2017. Cherri has been a Sweet Adeline for over 20 years, and has sung BASS in several choruses around the area:
  • Piney Hills
  • Southern Acappella Sound
  • Twin City Sensations
  • Top of the Rock

and sang on International stage in Houston in 2011, and Hawaii in 2013. She has also sung in a couple of quartets:
  • Taking Notes
  • Shequeee

Cherri has been the front-line director of SASC for almost the entire 11 years the chorus has existed (with the exception of a few months in 2016, due to illness).   Cherri has been the only bass section leader SASC has ever had, and has attended numerous training and educational symposiums throughout the country, while in Region 25 and in Region 10.  She's been a Sweet Adeline for over 20 years.  SASC is privileged to have the expertise and experience of Cherri Barmore, and it is our privilege to bestow this honor upon her.
